For a family whose loved one has a terminal diagnosis, gathering for a meal can bring comfort and build memories. The planning and cooking required, however, may be a burden. That’s why Spartanburg Regional Foundation provides meals for Spartanburg Regional Hospice patients and their families at Easter and Thanksgiving.

The meals, prepared by Wade’s Restaurant, feed 10 – 12 people. Volunteers deliver the meals to patients’ homes.

For $55 you can provide a meal for a family going through a difficult time. To make a donation in support of this special program, complete the form below or mail a check to:

Keith Plexico – Spartanburg Regional Hospice Volunteer

One of my favorite days of the entire year is fast approaching. Each year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, my wife Jill and I help deliver meals to Spartanburg Regional Hospice patients and their families. These meals are pre-prepared and come with instructions for heating and serving. They give families who are going through a difficult time the chance to enjoy a special occasion together without the stress of planning and cooking a large meal. I can tell you that the meals mean a great deal to these families. Without fail, they give us hugs and words of thanks. Many say, “God bless you.” And, indeed, we do feel blessed. Seeing the way people light up when we bring a meal into their home, we know we are making a difference for them. It is truly a special experience.

In addition to the feeling that delivering meals brings, there’s another reason I volunteer to support Spartanburg Regional Hospice patients and families: the hospice program was there for my family in times of need. Both of my parents passed away in the care of Spartanburg Regional Hospice, and the support that the nurses, doctors, social workers and chaplains provided was incredible. It is difficult to put into words how much they meant to my family, and I knew I wanted to give back.

I am proud to be involved with the Thanksgiving Meals program.
