Why We Give

Employee Testimonials

Sharon Jackson

"I have worked here for more than 25 years and have seen so much change and impact from our employees and the Spartanburg Regional Foundation in the community and within the walls of our healthcare system. Whether it's your time or your money that you can give, it makes a difference. It brings people together, it builds relationships, and it creates a healthier community."

Kathy R Belcher

"Supporting the foundation is vital to our community. I lost my mother to heart disease and my dad to cancer. Knowing patients and families are being cared for and benefit from the foundation is very meaningful."

Joanie M. Liddle

“It's a wonderful opportunity to be able to give back to our community, employees during times of need, areas within our organization, and patients. It is a humbling experience to receive blessings through the generosity of others. It is also a tremendous blessing to be able to take part in blessing others.”

Robin W. Jenkins

“My donation to the Bearden-Josey Center is important to me because of my recent journey with breast cancer.  I'm proud to say I'm now going on 3 years as a survivor, thanks to the great care I received here at SMC and the Bearden-Josey Center. Early detection is vital.”

Tracey Smith

“I had a premature baby, and he was 7 weeks early from his due date. He weighed 3lbs 14ozs and stayed in NICU for 2 weeks and 2 days before he was able to come home. I almost lost him twice during his stay, but the doctors and nurses in NICU took very good care of him.  He was a fighter and I'm proud and happy to say that 36 years later, he has grown up to be a wonderful young man, serving his country in the military, and a father of his own two children. He grew up healthy, and I thank God that he didn't have any developmental problems that sometimes occur due to being a premature baby. I'm very thankful that NICU was there for me in my time of need, and that's why I give to give other mothers the hope that their babies are in the best care in NICU.”

Meredith T. Fortner

“I feel privileged to be able to do my part to support the Spartanburg Regional Foundation because I have seen firsthand how the Foundation supports our community through distribution of funding to so many projects and programs that benefit a wide range of community members.  My donation allows me the opportunity to give back in a way that has a far-reaching impact! It also allows me to express my appreciation for the numerous times that the Foundation has been an excellent partner and supported Heart Services over the years!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Spartanburg Regional Foundation is a charitable corporation whose primary mission is to benefit Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System (SRHS) through direct support and also through support of community programs and services that share SRHS's mission of providing quality health care to our community. The Foundation is a qualified 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Donations to the Foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law.

Employees may contribute through payroll deduction, current Paid Time Off (PTO) hours, or by credit card. Current PTO donations will not include a contribution to the South Carolina Retirement System. The Foundation also accepts cash and checks.

Payroll deduction begins the first pay period in January and will continue through the calendar year. If you make your pledge after the first pay period in January, payroll deduction begins one or two pay periods after your pledge has been submitted.

PTO deductions will be deducted one or two pay periods after your pledge has been submitted. No more than 26 PTO hours will be deducted per pay period. If you donate over 26 hours, your deduction will be split across multiple paychecks. Your donation comes from the amount you have already accrued; please ensure you have enough PTO accrued to cover your pledge.

Gifts to the general fund support a variety of needs, including the Spartanburg Regional Foundation’s annual grants program. Grants are awarded to deserving community organizations and Spartanburg Regional departments.

100% of your contribution goes toward enhancing the programs and services of SRHS. The incentives we provide during the campaign are paid for out of the Foundation's operating budget.

With more than 100 individual funds and an annual competitive grants program, the Foundation is able to support direct assistance for patients in need, education for staff members, technology and facility improvements, and more.
