Donate now to make a BIG difference in a tiny life.
Each baby’s story is different. But they share a common bond: They are among our healthcare system’s smallest and most vulnerable patients.
When you donate to Spartanburg Regional Foundation’s NICU Fund, you are helping to ensure that these children have the best chance to grow and thrive.
As a Level III NICU – one of only five in South Carolina – the care provided is comprehensive and top-notch. The NICU Fund helps provide training and equipment for NICU nurses and therapists. The fund also assists families who need help with transportation, lodging and more.
You can help little patients like Gabriel Gosnell get through their hardest year.
Whitney Gosnell was just shy of 27 weeks pregnant in late September 2016. Though things had mostly been going well, she had recently experienced some minor complications along with moderate pain. A few days later, the pain grew worse so she decided to leave work early to rest. On the way home, she felt sick and pulled off the road. There in her car, alone, she gave birth to a tiny baby boy.
Whitney and her baby were transported by ambulance to Spartanburg Medical Center, where she and her husband, Preston, named the boy Gabriel. He weighed 2 pounds, 3 ounces and was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, or NICU.
“It was scary and overwhelming,” Whitney said. “Through this journey we had to hand over Gabriel to Jesus Christ and have faith that everything would be OK.”
Whitney made sure to spend time in the NICU every day, as nurses and doctors carefully monitored all aspects of Gabriel’s development.
“They were awesome,” she said. “And they became like a second family.”
Gabriel is now just over a year old. His first year of life was rough. In addition to being in the NICU for more than three months, he has had several surgeries to address issues with his lungs, intestines and eyesight.
“It’s a real miracle for him – and has been quite a journey for us,” she said.
